I heard someone recently say great leaders are not leaders—they are followers. They are following a cause greater than themselves.

People came to hear Martin Luther King, Jr. speak not because of him but because of themselves; because of something inside which told them what type of country they wanted to live in.

I loved hearing that because I have long said we are all leaders. When I talk and write about being a leader, I’m not talking about presidents, CEOs, and heroic figures such as MLK and Gandhi. I’m talking about making the world a better place, even in “small” ways. It’s about the role you play in your family. It’s about getting involved in your community. It’s about setting an example and taking on responsibility.

We all have it in us to be a leader in many ways—to do the right thing, to speak up for others, to volunteer: at home, at work, and in our community.

What are some causes greater than yourself you are following? Please join the conversation with your comments…

Best regards,

David
