Last week, I wrote about the many things I threw out when helping my parents move from a house to an apartment. I wrote about throwing things out or donating them along the way, rather than accumulating things you don’t need.

There is another way.

Don’t buy things you don’t need in the first place!

Here’s a rule I use. If I am considering a purchase, I ask myself if I could could see that item being sold at a future garage sale at my house (or being donated or otherwise disposed of). If I can, rather than buying it and later selling it at a garage sale, I skip the whole experience.
